Especially with all the pretty knob and pull hardware available to dress pieces up!

But... that dresser does look like it was made out of a figured hardwood, so it might have been worth it to see the spalting, quilting or striping. I don't mind painting poplar, ash, pine (lacking in any visually interesting grain, *so* boring) but a 150 year old piece made of bird's eye maple? Yeah, I'd rank painting that up there with other cardinal sins.

Okay, yes, it's true, I took two semesters of wood furniture in college. :)Miss Ohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14656675101239679982noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8007858033104457650.post-83361196273281813232012-05-23T20:50:37.000-07:002012-05-23T20:50:37.000-07:00I am a teacher and really dread the summer because...I am a teacher and really dread the summer because it seems all my boys do it fuss and argue. I have already decided that no matter how much my boys fuss about a schedule, they really want one. Having them on the computer, in front of the tv or playing video games doesn't get it for me. I'd love to know how you deal with the whites issue?

I struggle constantly with laundry...but my ALL TIME most dreaded part is matching/folding socks. So....here is my solution and it WORKS SOOOOO WELL!

Buy a bunch of LARGE safety pins and place small containers of these pins in strategic areas around the house. When you take off your socks..pin the socks together. They will go through the washer and dryer pinned together, and when they are done...just toss them in the drawer pinned together. When you get dressed, take the pin out an toss the pin in the container. I have several containers around my house so they are never far away from wherever one might be changing clothes! Super time saver!!! I've got maternity clothes, clothes-that-only-fit-post-partum, clothes-that-used-to-fit, clothes-that-will-fit-once-the-pregnancy-pounds-come-off (and I'm on my way down now)...you get the idea. I just don't know what to keep. We are still expanding our family, so the maternity clothes need to stay (in a bin under the bed), I tend to weed out the fat clothes that only fit in those first post-partum months, and then replace again after the next baby (so expensive!) and right now I'm kind of between stages.Julianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09134771358325901297noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8007858033104457650.post-18495641512128196122010-11-24T07:08:29.376-08:002010-11-24T07:08:29.376-08:00love this post. This year we've been able to help put together and deliver a few Thanksgiving meals (along with my parents and other extended family) for 3 different families. With that same extended family we'll be helping out with a sub-for-santa for a family we all know and love. I'm really excited to get the kids involved in that.

As for being the one who is served, I've been learning about that. :) I've been blown away by how much my friends and family really do love me and the lengths they've gone to to serve me during my blessedly stressful time (new baby, sold house, bought new house all in the same week. Crazy? yes.) It's been a beautiful lesson.Angiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01425957955833631610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8007858033104457650.post-42463897894195716792010-11-15T12:57:10.174-08:002010-11-15T12:57:10.174-08:00Oh I am sooooo gonna do this this year! Santa did bring a box of hot chocolate for my then-2-yr-old because that is ALL he asked for. Last year my 8 yr old wanted an American Girl doll. Well, as luck would have it, I found one for $20(!!!) at a yard sale. I sent it back to the AG doll hospital for some repairs and to my surprise they deemed the problems their fault and sent my payment back with the newly fixed doll. On Christmas morning after all the gifts were opened, my sweet girl pulled me aside and told me with great concern in her little voice that the doll was way to expensive of a gift. Since the doll was a gift from my husband and I, I reassured her that we didn't spend very much. Long story short-she didn't care where it came from. It was such a great moment for me as her mother too.Angiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01425957955833631610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8007858033104457650.post-46925719820872443052010-11-12T18:13:05.002-08:002010-11-12T18:13:05.002-08:00Thank you for this post! However, after becoming a Christian, we went with 3 gifts per child (we have 5), like the 3 gifts for Jesus. Last year, I totally blew it, and went waaaay overboard. Even the kids commented that it was too much. so, back to the basics this year...I love the Victorian idea...may use it this year...but, regardless, thank you again. I let myself feel guilty because we cannot do for ours what our friends can do for theirs...not what Christmas is about!
Thanks!Kellihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06851161610665834331noreply@blogger.com
