$15 Dresser Refinished... Finally!

Yes, I showed you this picture in May.  This has been a long time procrastinator project.  Somehow hauling out the primer and black paint took a back burner to the everyday schedule of life with my 'lil punk-a-noodles. Now this beauty sits in the corner of my bedroom.

Not bad for $15 eh?  See her sister in yellow?  I collect old dressers.  Truth: My new black dresser presently is empty.  It's missing the entire back of the cabinet and the drawers don't work... but it LOOKS fabulous.  I'm sure it will take me another 6 months to restore the drawer runners.  The husband gives me a sideways glance... why did I knock myself out for a broken dresser?

Why?  Because I needed black in that room to make it feel right.  I needed an upright substantial piece of non-working furniture for a mere $15 to take up floor space so I wouldn't have to vacuum in that corner.  And....?

....AND I'd steal horses for those knobs!  $15 dollars is chump change for handles like that!  I'm a sucker for a good drawer pull.

Now the room is balanced... though the dresser's not.  I can roll a marble right off the top.  Everything leans forward severely.  That's fixable too right!  Guess I should have closed that drawer all the way too.  Shameful.  No, this dresser isn't a waste of space.  It's great storage, even if I have to support the drawer when I pull it out.  I could keep plenty in them drawers:)

Now, I just need to finish this FREE dresser I rescued from bulk pick-up day on the side of the road.  No, the drawers don't work, but they will... in 6 more months!

Very beautiful, how about adding baskets to the lower part instead of having drawers? BJ over at Sweet Nothings had a great dresser that she converted and it looks like something from Pottery Barn. Either way, you have a fantastic piece and you certainly can't beat $15!

Beautiful!! So nice to see someone "save" an old piece instead of junking it.....great job!

That looks great! I'm waiting on my free paint from Glidden {black} to start a few furniture projects myself.

We all have trouble with our drawers now and then don't we? HA HA HA, shame on me. Seriously, this is a fantastic makeover. Who needs a back to the thing anyway? Listing is a easy fix, do the table wobble trick with some paper/wood/foam to make do for now. Lovely piece and well worth the bargain price not to mention the efforts!

The dresser looks beautiful! I had to laugh at the drawers not working, but sometimes it's more about how it looks than the practical side.

Ooohhh....black....always bet on black, right?

It looks great! Sorry about the drawers, though.

I'm glad to hear I am not the only one who procrastinates. Your dresser looks fabulous. Even if the drawers don't work & there is no back. Both are easy fixes. At least for my hubby. For me, not so much. And I would kill for those pulls too. Well, I wouldn't actually kill, but you get my drift.

Oh, I'm totally in love with black painted furniture! I see it all the time on DIY DAY, but I have yet to tackle it myself. One of these days ...

You did a wonderful job!

Love it! Who needs drawers anyway? I have a few dressers waiting for me to get around to...this one definitely has inspired me to at least think about getting one started!
And i totally agree with needing a big piece of furniture to make less floor to vacuum. ;)

You're so funny. Dresser drawers that actually work are highly overrated!

I love that style of dresser. That is so funny that it doesn't even work! It's all about the beauty. Hopefully you'll get it fixed, so it's functional, too. Very pretty piece and a steal for $15.00.
