My Newly Painted Cabinets!

For a Tutorial Post on how to paint Harlequin look HERE!
From This:

To This: Ahh......

Unbelievable what a little paint, 2 and a half weeks, 14 Excedrin, and just as many Sonic runs and pizza nights can do to a kitchen.
This was crazy. I admit. You have to be "a few screws loose, bugged every time you look at your kitchen, sick of the walls closing in around you stir crazy," to attempt this... if you have children, in some odd way you do this for your sanity. This kind of remodeling builds character and great survival skills for all in the house. But then, you get to come downstairs after your little chipmunks are in bed and get a drink of water in this heaven of a room...(it's still not finished. Need: Cabinet hardware, under cab lighting, and those fancy scrolly woody thingys that look like they're holding up your cabinets but they really aren't... I'm saving up and paying cash- this was an all cash $150 remodel).

In this kitchen, all my problems melt away.... I forget....

Until I turn around and see what I cleared off all the counters to take those lovely shots. Ahhh... reality. The daily living that I so bravely face. The scene that to me is "Groundhog Day" every day... 20 dirty cups used once by 6 different kiddos... life.

Oh, I almost forgot! Make sure you visit back next week. Jen from The Magic Brush is stopping in for a surprise! You won't want to miss it!

There will be more to come on this kitchen. We're saving for cabinets on either side of the sink (another painting project) and I'll post when the hardware is on... I'm pretty undecided right now on the bottom hardware. Any suggestions?

You have absolutely inspired me! The change in your kitchen is amazing! My cabinets need painted very badly. I've been kicking around what to with them. Hmm. I wonder if harlequin would go with my toile Roman shades...

Do you think you could be persuaded to do a post on how you actually did the harlequin pattern? Pretty please?

I, too, am totally inspired by what you did in your kitchen! It's just beautiful!

I'll be eagerly anticipating the steps to come!

Oh my word, they came out awesome! The part I liked the best was the other side of the kitchen where it looked totally like mine does with all the dishes! Thanks for keepin' it real!

Check out Hobby Lobby for your hardware. It is 1/2 off right now and they have some pretty fun stuff. If you want something more basic though Target has a bunch on clearance. I just picked some good ones there for a little over a buck a piece....plus they sell diet coke and chocolate :)
P.S. Lee and I will be by for a visit to take in the full beauty :) They look great.

Your cupboards look fabulous! I admire your courage in painting them; we've got oak cabinets (from previous owner!) and I am getting up the nerve to paint them. They are so dark and dreary.

Hardware? Hmm... Pewter? Or pewter look? I think it might work nicely with the soft colors of both upper and lower cabinets.

A friend of mine who has 7 children told me that in her house, doing cleanup is like putting beads on a string, with NO KNOT on the end.... you never finish.

thanks for sharing and inspiring!

OMG I'm DYING!
How did you do the harlequin? How did you tape it off? I have plain cream (painted by me) cabinets and would LOVE to jazz them up.

Your cabinets look fabulous!!!! And I really enjoyed your "keeping it real" photo of the sink & dishes. I always have to move stuff out of the way to take photos for my blog. I'm just glad to find out I am not alone. Thanks for making me feel normal. But then, I don't have 6 kids. Just 3 adults that act like 6 kids.

Beautiful job! In our house clearing the counters and sink is a full days work let alone painting and redecorating.

I would love to know how you got the design on the cabinet door fronts - very nice!

Wow...I just found your website and I love it! I am a homemaker/homeschooling mom of 5 wonderful kids. 3 boys/2 girls. Married to my darling hubby for nigh unto 18 years. I felt we were kindred spirits when you were commenting about 20 dirty cups used only one time, and something about laundry being done for 10 minutes...THAT is my life too!!! Loved your kitchen redo!!!

I like the geometric pattern on the doors. To me, they call for 'swirly' freeform type hardware! But that is just my artsy fartsy personality yappin'. I shall beat her back into check later!

Wow!!!! You did a fabulous job, I LOVE the pattern. Do you see that in your sleep now? Have nightmares about painters' tape? Thanks for showing us the other side before I got all jealous about your spotless kitchen and all... :)

Okay, so I'm late to this party! : ) Did you ever take an after shot that showed the fabric with the cabinets?

That is a gorgeous fabric and I can't blame you for decorating around it!
